Offline Dutch Translator for iPhone
Translation stays on-device; web search opens externally only if you choose it.
Pocket Lingo translates Dutch with a compatible model on your device after setup. Translation stays local; if you decline a result and explicitly choose web search, only then does the query open in an external service.
Why offline, for Dutch
The Netherlands is small, flat, and thoroughly wired, right up until it isn't. A regional train between cities, a ferry out to the Wadden islands, a long bike route through the polders, or a prepaid eSIM that quietly runs dry: that's usually the moment a sign stops making sense. And because you'll reach for Dutch only now and then, the last thing you want is a tool that has to phone home first. On-device means it answers instantly, in airplane mode, standing right at the machine, not after the page finally loads.
Dutch is written in the same alphabet you already read, so a menu won't defeat you the way a foreign script might. Saying it is the hard part: the throat-scraping "g", the "ui" and "ij" sounds that have no English twin, a word like alstublieft that looks nothing like it sounds. That's where a translator that speaks each phrase aloud, word by word, earns its place: the Dutch will happily switch to English, but they notice the visitor who actually tries.
Offline Dutch: Pocket Lingo vs. Google Translate
Google Translate can translate supported language pairs offline after their language packs are downloaded. Pocket Lingo takes a different approach: it requires no Studio AM account and translates with a compatible model on your device. Set up the model you need before traveling; the app then works in airplane mode without sending the translation to a Studio AM server.
