The Challenge

Reading faster is not useful if understanding falls behind. Adults learning or rebuilding English need short, repeatable practice that checks the main idea, inference, vocabulary, and detail, then shows where the evidence was.

Our Approach

Fluency turns 286 readings across five levels into a deliberate loop: read, recall, answer, inspect the explanation, and reread with a strategy. An adaptive daily workout responds to demonstrated level and weaker skills. The Literacy Index combines comprehension with reading speed without rewarding fast, careless reading.

Key Features

  • 286 readings, 1,156 real questions. Fiction, science, history, philosophy, fables, and more across five levels and 12 genres.
  • Recall before recognition. Summarize the passage from memory before multiple-choice answers can cue you.
  • Coaching, not just a score. Strategy notes, signal phrases, question explanations, and guided rereading point back to the evidence.
  • Vocabulary in context. Use the on-device dictionary, save words with their original sentences, review with spaced repetition, and learn word parts.
  • Adaptive daily practice. Workouts target your demonstrated level and weaker reading skills, with a streak and a goal you choose.
  • Comprehension before speed. The Literacy Index combines accuracy and WPM; Fluency Lab separately compares a cold read with a hot reread.
  • Listen along. Follow sentence highlighting with the installed system voice, or optionally download an approximately 325 MB on-device natural voice.
  • Optional on-device tutor. Recall feedback is available only on compatible iOS or iPadOS 26 devices with Apple Intelligence enabled and ready.
  • Your record stays yours. Even without active access, view every saved record, export complete JSON plus readable text, or delete everything.

Access and Privacy

Fluency has no permanent free practice tier. New practice requires a monthly or annual auto-renewable subscription. Eligible new subscribers may receive a 3-day trial; the App Store displays the current local price, eligibility, and renewal terms before purchase. A retired one-time product is not sold, but verified earlier owners retain full access through Restore Purchases.

There is no Studio AM account, advertising, analytics, tracking, or telemetry. Progress is stored locally. Core reading practice works offline; passage updates, StoreKit, the optional natural-voice download, and a user-chosen external web-search handoff use the network. The free reading-practice library on this website is available without signup and is separate from the subscription app.

Results

Fluency gives adults and serious English learners a repeatable way to practice understanding, vocabulary, and reading pace without treating any single score as an exam result.

Common questions

Fluency is an iPhone and iPad app for adults and serious English learners. It combines 286 passages across five levels with main-idea, inference, vocabulary, and detail questions, contextual word review, adaptive workouts, a Literacy Index, and repeated-reading practice. The app has no permanent free practice tier. New practice requires a monthly or annual auto-renewable subscription; eligible new subscribers may receive a 3-day trial, and the App Store shows the current local price, eligibility, and renewal terms. Without active access, readers can still view their complete saved record, export it as lossless JSON plus a readable text summary, or delete it. Earlier one-time owners keep full access through Restore Purchases.

Is Fluency free? How much does it cost?

Fluency has no permanent free practice tier. New practice requires a monthly or annual auto-renewable subscription. Eligible new subscribers may receive a 3-day trial; the App Store shows the current local price, eligibility, and renewal terms before purchase. Earlier one-time owners keep full access through Restore Purchases, but that lifetime product is no longer sold.

What can I do if my subscription ends?

Your reading record remains yours. You can view every saved word and word part, answer, daily score, Daily Challenge, recall, Fluency Lab sitting, Literacy Index, and streak; export the complete record as lossless JSON plus a readable plain-text summary; or delete it. Starting new practice requires active access.

What is included in the reading library?

Fluency contains 286 passages across five levels and 12 genres, followed by 1,156 questions on main idea, inference, vocabulary, and detail. The library combines original texts with attributed public-domain readings.

How does Fluency build comprehension and speed?

Read a short passage, recall its point, answer real comprehension questions, and use guided rereading to locate the evidence. Adaptive workouts target demonstrated level and weaker skills. Fluency Lab compares a cold read with a hot reread; speed contributes to the Literacy Index only when comprehension is solid.

Can Fluency help me learn vocabulary?

Yes. Tap a word for the on-device dictionary, save it with its original sentence, review it with spaced repetition, and learn useful word parts. Listen-along highlights the passage sentence by sentence.

Does the reading tutor work on every supported device?

No. The core app supports iOS and iPadOS 17 or later. The optional on-device reading tutor requires iOS or iPadOS 26, an Apple-Intelligence-capable device, Apple Intelligence enabled, and its model ready. The rest of the reading practice does not require that tutor.

Is Fluency private and does it work offline?

There is no Studio AM account, advertising, analytics, or tracking, and your reading record is stored locally. Core practice works offline. Network access is used for StoreKit, passage updates you request, an optional roughly 325 MB natural-voice download, and an external web search only when you explicitly choose it after a declined question. Export leaves the app only through the system share sheet you open.
