A Free Place to Learn

In almost every town there is a place where you can sit, read, and learn without paying a cent. It is the public library. With a library card, which is free, you can borrow books and take them home. You can read the news, use a computer, or find a quiet corner to study.

Many people do not know how much a library offers. Some hold classes to help adults learn to read or use a computer. Some lend tools, games, or even musical instruments. A library is warm in winter and cool in summer, open to anyone who walks in.

You do not have to buy anything. You do not have to be rich or young. For a person who wants to learn but has little money, the library may be the most useful place in the whole town.
