Where is my data stored?
In the app's local storage on your device and, when backup is enabled and iCloud is available, in Home Story's private container in your iCloud account. Home Story never uploads your home's records to a Studio AM server.
How do I back up my data?
Home Story makes a rolling backup when the app goes to the background. When iCloud is available, it stores that backup and up to three manual snapshots in your private iCloud container so you can restore after a reinstall or on another device. This is backup and restore, not live record syncing. We run no servers and cannot see the snapshots.
How do the maintenance schedules work?
When you add a home, Home Story applies a built-in schedule matched to its type: filters, detectors, water heater, gutters, seasonal jobs, and more, each with an interval and a typical cost range. Logging a service with the matching name marks it done and restarts its clock. You can disable any task that doesn't apply.
Are the intervals manufacturer data?
They're standard home-maintenance recommendations, not brand-specific service data. Treat them as sensible defaults: your equipment's manual and local climate win whenever they disagree.
Can I track more than one home?
On a fresh install, the free tier supports one real home, one active custom reminder, and up to 10 new service, utility, or issue entries. Existing records remain readable, editable, and exportable; photo attachments and iCloud backup and restore are also available without Pro. Home Story Pro is an optional one-time purchase, not a subscription. It unlocks unlimited homes, log entries, and custom reminders, plus PDF reports and advanced cost insights. The App Store shows the current local price before purchase.
How do reminders work?
Reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device from each task’s interval and your logged history. Adjust timing or turn them off in Settings.
Can I export or delete my data without Pro?
Yes. Settings can export a complete JSON copy of your Home Story records and attached photos without Pro. You can also delete local homes, history, issues, photos, preferences, and app-managed export files, with a separate choice to keep or delete Home Story backups in your private iCloud container. PDF maintenance reports are a Pro feature.
When does Home Story use the internet?
Your home records work locally. Home Story may use the internet for private iCloud backup and restore, Apple and RevenueCat purchase loading or restoration, verified maintenance-task and guide updates from Studio AM’s public GitHub Pages site, and the public Studio AM app list in Settings. Support, privacy, terms, App Store, and email links open only when you choose them. These requests do not send your home records to Studio AM.
