The Challenge

A growing body of work is hard to photograph well and harder to keep track of. Snapshots come out crooked and off-color, and the details that matter (title, dimensions, medium, year, series, price, status) end up scattered or lost, so a catalog turns into a pile.

Our Approach

Atelier pairs a camera built for artwork with a clean catalog. A gray-card white-balance lock, manual ISO and shutter, a level, and a self-timer capture sharp, color-true frames, while each piece is logged with full metadata and an auto-extracted palette. It is offline-first with no account, no login, no tracking, no ads, and no server. Your catalog and captures live on your device.

Key Features

  • A camera built for artwork. Shoot in HEIF with a gray-card white-balance lock, manual ISO and shutter, a level, and a self-timer: sharp frames and true-to-life color, not crooked snapshots.
  • A real catalog. Title, dimensions, medium, year, series, price, and status (available, sold, or NFS) for every piece, each with an auto-extracted color palette.
  • Find any piece. Search by title, filter by status, and group by series, so a growing body of work stays browsable instead of becoming a pile.
  • Export that earns its keep. Batch print- and web-ready images plus a CSV inventory you can hand to a gallery, a shop, or your own site, with each row joinable to its exported file.
  • Color you can trust. A gray-card white-balance step locks neutral so the colors you catalog match the painting on the wall, captured in a wide-gamut HEIF.
  • Private. No account, no login, no tracking, no ads, no server. Atelier is offline-first; your catalog and captures live on your device.

Results

Atelier turns a scattered body of work into a color-true, fully cataloged inventory ready to hand to a gallery or shop.

Common questions

Atelier, listed on the App Store as Artwork Catalog: Atelier, is a free English-language iPhone and iPad app for photographing and cataloging paintings. It is built for a tripod: lock exposure, focus and white balance once, optionally set white balance from an 18 percent gray card, square up with the on-screen level, then shoot every piece the same way. On-device Vision finds the canvas edges and deskews the frame into a Display P3 HEIF, and on devices that support ProRAW an untouched DNG is archived alongside it. Each piece records title, dimensions, medium, year, project or series, price, status, notes, an auto-extracted color palette and the camera settings used, with title, artist and copyright embedded in every saved image. It shoots with the camera and does not import existing photos from the library. Capture, deskew and the first 15 cataloged pieces are free; Atelier Pro is a one-time $14.99 purchase in the US, not a subscription, and removes the 15-piece cap and unlocks batch image export and a CSV inventory. There is no account, no ads and no tracking, and the catalog stays on the device.
