“Private journal” can mean at least three different things: entries are stored locally, cloud copies are encrypted, or AI analysis happens without sending the entry away. Those are useful promises, but they are not interchangeable.

Storage privacy and AI privacy are different
Ask two questions before trusting any journal with an honest entry:
- Where is the entry stored? Only on the device, in private sync, or in a service account?
- Where is the AI processed? On the device, or by an online service after you choose to send text?
End-to-end encryption can strongly protect a synced journal. It does not, by itself, prove that an AI feature runs locally.

The point is not that one architecture is automatically good and another bad. Online models can be larger and available on more hardware. The useful distinction is whether you are choosing to send a particular entry, and whether the product explains what happens next.
What Daily Vibe does differently
Daily Vibe runs its journal analysis on a compatible iPhone or iPad. The model selects bounded mood and energy labels, extracts themes, and chooses supporting excerpts from your own entries. The app validates displayed excerpts against the source text; numeric trends are calculated in code. The result can still be imperfect, so it is presented as a reflection prompt, not a diagnosis or medical advice.
Entries stay on the device by default. Optional private iCloud sync uses your own private CloudKit database and is off until you enable it. Studio AM has no journal account or journal server and does not receive that database. If Ask Your Trends cannot ground an answer, the app can offer a separate web-search button; nothing is sent unless you tap it.
Voice has two explicit paths:
- Compose-bar dictation becomes text on-device and keeps no audio.
- A spoken entry intentionally saves its recording locally for playback and creates an on-device transcript. Recordings never upload or sync through iCloud.
Compatibility and price
Daily Vibe requires iOS or iPadOS 26. AI uses Apple Intelligence when it is available, enabled, and ready, or an optional local-model download on compatible hardware. The current downloads are about 0.9 GB for Lite or 2.6 GB for Enhanced; devices with less than 3.5 GB of RAM cannot run the AI features.
There is no free feature tier. Eligible new subscribers may receive a 3-day trial, then pay $4.99 per month or $29.99 per year in the US. If a subscription ends, saved entries and recordings remain readable, searchable, playable, exportable, and deletable; creating and analyzing new work requires active access.

Daily Vibe runs its mood, energy, theme, and reflection analysis on a compatible iPhone or iPad. Apple Journal computes Journaling Suggestions on-device, but Apple describes those as suggestions for what to write rather than a Daily Vibe-style analysis of free-text mood and themes.
Does end-to-end encryption mean journal AI is on-device?
