Answers about attention practice, your measurements, honest limits, and your data.
What is Hone Focus?
Hone Focus is a daily attention practice app built on twelve standard research tasks: reaction time (PVT), sustained response (SART), the Mackworth vigilance clock, colour-vs-word (Stroop), flanker arrows, side-vs-colour (Simon), visual search, go/no-go, stop signal, task switching, multiple object tracking, and change blindness. Each five-minute session mixes rounds at a difficulty that adapts to you, and every round produces measurements: your reaction time, your switch cost, your interference profile. The App Store listing is named Practice Focus and Attention.
Will this improve my focus in everyday life?
We will not promise that, because the evidence does not support it: practising attention tasks reliably makes you better at those tasks, and the evidence for transfer to everyday attention is weak. Hone Focus is built as a measurement instrument instead. The value is your own numbers (how your reaction time moves with sleep, which kind of interference costs you most, what a rule switch costs you in milliseconds), and the lessons teach with those numbers rather than with claims. The strategy lessons cover what has better evidence: environment design, implementation intentions, and sleep.
Is this an ADHD test or screening tool?
No. Hone Focus does not diagnose, screen for, or assess any condition, and nothing in it should be read that way. It is a practice-and-measurement app for adults curious about their own attention. If you have concerns about attention in daily life, a licensed clinician is the right place to take them.
How much does it cost? Is there a free tier?
There is no free tier: practice and lesson texts require a subscription. Eligible new subscribers get a 3-day free trial; Apple shows eligibility and local terms before purchase. The US prices are $4.99 per month or $29.99 per year.
What can I access without a subscription?
Everything you have already made. Your session history, streaks, and every measurement already taken stay readable forever, with or without an active subscription, and you can export or erase all of it from Settings at any time. The lesson list and unit titles are always visible. The subscription covers new practice and opening lesson texts.
What do the lessons show me?
Twenty-two short lessons across five units: what attention is (including what these drills do and do not measure), staying on task, picking the signal, steering it, and the strategies with real evidence. Where a lesson has a measurement behind it, it shows YOUR number from your own runs (your vigilance decay curve, your interference profile, your switch cost, your stopping time), or invites you to run the drill that produces it.
How does difficulty work?
Each drill adapts separately on a shared level scale: runs grow longer, deadlines tighten, scenes grow busier, more objects move. Strong rounds push a drill up; misses ease it back. Your levels persist between sessions. Reaction time is the exception: the classic task does not get "harder", so its levels only add trials.
Why did my round restart when I switched apps?
These are timed tasks, and time spent away is time the stimuli would have played to nobody. There is no honest way to score half a run. When the app leaves the foreground mid-round, the round is voided and parked, nothing from the interrupted run is scored, and it says so on screen. Start the round again when you are back.
Does Hone Focus need the internet?
No. Every drill and lesson works offline. The network is used only by Apple’s StoreKit for plans, purchase, and restore. Access is never revoked just because you are offline.
Does the app collect or sync my data?
No. There is no account, no analytics, no tracking, and no cloud sync. Your results, levels, streaks, and every measurement are stored locally on your device and never leave it. Settings can export everything as two readable files, or erase it all.
How do I restore a purchase?
Open the paywall and tap Restore Purchases. If Apple verifies the transaction, access returns without buying again. Subscriptions are managed through your Apple ID settings; a free trial ends without charge if you cancel before it is over.
Still stuck, or found a bug?
Email support@studioam.art. If a number on a result card looks wrong, tell us the drill and the level. The scoring rules are deterministic, so we can rerun exactly what you saw.
